I first read the foxfire books in the 1970's and they are a treasure! I would suggest that you get the actual book on this and not the digital version. The pictures are impossible to see, there is no way to identify the plants from the very small photos. The content of the book is good and well worth reading.
This is a concise collection of folks medicines in earlier times in the Southeaster mountains. A description is given of each medicine to enable one to recognize it in its natural form as well as giving the applications for each natural medicine. Any one intersted in folk ways in the Southeastern mountains should read this book. It also gives much insight into the every day lives of these pioneering people.I myself remember when I was growning up that mountain people dug "seng" as well as other natural herbs for sale to the Chinese. Market prices for ginseng were published in the papers. Many a mountain farm family was able to bet by on digging herbs and selling them. Extensive beds of these herbs have been destroyed by over harvesting.
Not great as references go but interesting history and some cures that are entertaining even if they are a bit iffy. The internet can round out information about the individual herbs and the list is a decent place to start.
Wish i had the paper back. It a heck of a book will be buying the other 11 books

I've always loved the Foxfire series!
