I am so grateful that I finally got around to reading this book. It was eye-opening to be able to see inside the mind of Temple Grandin. It was interesting to learn more about autism and how it affects those who think in that way. With the differences, I was very surprised with how much I felt in common with the author. Oh, I'm not nearly as intelligent as Ms, Grandin, but her sensitivities to touch, and sound and crowds, her visual thinking, well, I saw my own ways of dealing with the same. I almost wanted to see if I would find a hug-machine for myself. But I do enjoy hugs from family and friends. I will find myself having anxiety attacks in a crowd or with too much noise. Even the sound of the fan or the refrigerator will drive me nuts.Mercy. That was what I felt from Ms. Grandin. I love how much care she gives to the animals doomed to be slaughtered. Outside of wishing everyone could be vegetarians, the next best thing is that we learn to treat our fellow beings on this Earth with humane care. This copy was the paperback and the print was very hard for me to read. But since it was a BookCrossing copy I wanted to be able to pass it on to others. This is BCID 395-7719867. I will send it on to others in our group.

This was a fascinating read. I especially liked the first half when she talked about her childhood, her memories and how she came to learn things. It’s very helpful in understanding the different way autistic people think. Her style of writing was intriguing and I think really showed her logical way of seeing things. For the second half I had to continually keep reminding myself that she is talking about her life and her own interests. She devotes two entire chapters to animals, their thoughts and emotions and connecting with them, and while it was very interesting, I obviously do not have the passion for that particular topic that she does. Some of those chapters I felt like I had to plod through a bit.Overall I got out of this book what I thought I would—a better understanding of differences in thought pattern. I’m glad I read it.

I would recommend reading Temple Grandin's books and watching the movie about her life, if you want to know more about Autism; and she is also an interesting individual in my opinion. I myself have high functioning Autism too, so I can relate to her quite a bit; despite having different interests. For example, she's more scientifically oriented than I am. But, I like that she overcame all the obstacles that a lot of people with disabilities face; like people making fun of her, and saying that she can't live a normal life as a couple of examples when she grew up in a difficult time period for people like that. That's why I look up to her.

I loved this book so much. It is filled with tons of facts and a lot of them are very relatable for autistic people. My brother is autistic and this book helps me to somewhat understand why he did some of the things he did. I believe that Grandin made this book to help other autistic people in the world and to also encourage them in a sense. She is not some egotistical scientist who wants to make a extremely biased point on an issue. She is actually very scientific and genuine in her explanations. She does not leave any stones unturned or un-shown. I like this a lot about her book and it is eye opening. The only thing I wish she would have included is taste reactions when she talks about over-stimulation. Other than that she covered everything I could possibly think of wondering or asking about autism.

Great book. I learned much about myself and the difficulties I have had through life. I'm 53 and was just told be my MH person that what I have been trying to deal with all this time is Aspergers. It has been hinted at for a long time but finally someone pointed me at this book and a few others by the same author and my life and hers are so alike it first shocked me, then made me glad to know I am not alone then depressed me because she had people who understood and encouraged her, I got beatings and called "retard". Never knew why, until I watched the movie and started reading this book. Towards the end, much is repeated but still 5 star.

My son is Autistic and I have a neurological/autonomic nervous system disorder that helps me empathize with persons who have Autism. I, too, "think in pictures" and find some of myself in this book, as well as my gaining a better understanding of how my little boy likely views the world.Who better than Dr. Temple Grandin, PhD who happens to be Autistic, to give insight into the world from the perspective of one who had Autism? Dr. Grandin is an amazing person who has shown what one can achieve if one does not accept "you can't" for an answer, no matter your circumstances. She and her mother have inspired me to fight for my son, even when "experts" say he has reached his peak or he will never be able to do something. I have learned that sometimes "no" is not the answer. If I had accepted that my son would never do certain things, he wouldn't be speaking now. Most grateful for this and all of Dr. Grandin's books.
