About the Author

Born in Ohio, Albert Dickas earned BA and MA degrees from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). He earned his PhD at Michigan State University and then worked in the oil industry for many years. He taught at the University of Wisconsin Superior for thirty-one years, founded an environmental research center, and became involved in the industrial exploration for oil in the Precambrian strata of the Midcontinent Rift. He has led numerous field conferences, authored and coauthored more than thirty papers, and delivered presentations from Nova Scotia to Siberia all on the subject of Precambrian oil and Precambrian rifting. Today he lives on the crest of Brush Mountain in southwest Virginia, where he continues to engage in research and plan travel excursions in his quest for new and interesting geo-sites on all of the seven continents.

First of all I must admit that I have insider knowledge to the quality of Dickas's work. I know Dr. "Bert" Dickas. 45 years ago he was a young professor at the University of Wisconsin at Superior and I was one of his students. He quickly became my favorite professor because I learned more from him than any other professor or lecturer. And I had some good ones. I spent thousands of hours at the Jim Dan Hill library, researching and writing papers for his classes. I learned tons of stuff under his tutelage. So when I spotted his book in a list of offerings by Amazon, I let out an astonished "whoop!", hit the one-step order button, then raced into the kitchen to inform my wide-eyed wife that I had just found a book by Bert Dickas! Obviously, I had to fill in a little background for her.If you are a geo-traveler who likes to expand his or her horizons with well-researched and well-written guide books, you will find this book to be a treasure trove. I have had mine for a couple of weeks and already it is full of highlights, underlinings, marginal notes, and stuffings. I was surprised at how many of his "gotta-see" Geo-Sites I have been to and am yet planning to visit or re-visit. Let me give you a taste of what you will find:1) The most photogenic "slot canyon" in the world. P.24 (I will be at this site next March)2) The landing pad for ET's. Hit the "order" button right now!)Besides the individual geo-site descriptions, Dickas provides a very handy 18-page introduction including age-dating (relative and absolute), a simplified geologic time scale, plate tectonics theory, and a short history of the Earth. Spend a little time here, you will be much better informed.Read the foreword, read the introduction. Root around a little. Do some digging and studying and you will be well-rewarded. For example, Dickas mentions scrambling up a rock face in Italy, much to his friends' amazement, and pointing triumphantly at a "...1-centimeter-thick layer of red clay embedded in a limestone hillside," discovered by a father and son team, Luis and Walter Alvarez. As soon as I read that paragraph, I reached over to one of my book shelves and extracted my dog-eared copy of "T-Rex and the Crater of Doom," by Walter Alvarez. No, it's not some kid's sci-fi magazine. It's a fascinating geo-detective story that presents a very plausible explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Go order a copy of "T-Rex" while you're thinking about it. Go ahead - you're in Amazon right now, just hit the button. You will NOT be disappointed.One final point - Dickas mentions in his "acknowledgments" page that his editor, James Lainsbury of Mountain Press, had the "...difficult task to inform me my first draft was much too long." What resulted was, in my opinion, truly amazing. Every one of the 101 geo-sites consists of only two pages: a one-page description of the site and a facing page of drawings and pictures. That's it! Two pages for each site! And yet you have enough information to give you the basics. Want more information? I have enjoyed reading this book. It opens my eyes to many additional places in the United States that I need to visit for their geological significance. As the author notes "Geology gives birth to lifelong investigation, if you have the curiosity, the know-how, and the time."You'll find in this book a brief primer on geology as well as a short history of the Earth, as well as 101 interesting geo-sites to consider and explore. The sites each get their own sections, which are easy to jump to in the Kindle version as they're listed in the contents as hyperlinks.As I read, I mark on my Google Maps app which sites I'd like to visit so that if the opportunity arises, I won't miss it. I like that my Google Maps app is now peppered with these additional interesting places I'd like to see alongside the national parks I still need to visit.Reading this book also helped me understand fossils and the accessibility of fossil sites in the U.S. I bought a couple additional Kindle books under that topic as well. If you're interested in fossils, you might check out the 101 Geo-Sites book to help improve your knowledge.

Difficult to locate places of interest near planned travel routes and destinations. Map showing sites is low-resolution and site numbers are barely legible. Map has no highways or other useful features to orient the user. No correspondence between site numbers and page numbers. Would be much better as an interactive app with geo-location features, than as e-book.

The format of this book is one page of text, faced by a page of photos and diagrams, for each of the 101 sites. Despite the limited space available for each entry, the author has done a stunning job of condensing the material, and with a prose that often borders on the poetic. Although I am a practicing geologist, I have been away from "the rocks" long enough to appreciate how well the author finds the perfect balance between the technical and the basic. This is one of those rare books that deserves six stars.The book also organizes the sites by states, so that no one is too far from a site of interest. The downside to this is that several prominent sites (such as the Grand Canyon!) are absent, but the upside is the inclusion of many little-known but interesting features that otherwise would have remained in obscurity. I will definitely consult this book when planning future vacations!

If you love geology like I do, you are going to love this book. While I haven't read it cover-to-cover, yet, it looks like Dr. Dickas has compiled a wonderful field guide. The book has excellent color photos for all locations; and there are very understandable explanations of the geology along with colorful maps, cross-sections, and strat columns where helpful. In the Foreword, we learn he's had traveling companions change from "So?" to "Wow!" when told the significance of various sites in Europe. --With this book, you can "Wow" your friends in the U.S.. We can't wait to get out and start seeing the sites!

My husband and I are rockhounds and while we did like this book, some of the sites suggested are not the sites we would have recommended. For the states covered that we knew well, instead of including some outstanding and unusual places, it included places not nearly as outstanding. I feel it missed the mark a little.

And they aren't the same sites you would expect based on what you've been exposed to since Geo 101 in college. These 101 get right down to the heart of the geology of the North American continent. I not only enjoyed the book, I learned a great deal and I thought I already knew pretty much all about the continent. If you are looking for the most eyeball stunning features this is not the book, although many of the sites are stunning. But if you are looking for geologic sites that really define our continent then this is the book you have been looking for.

Brown Sugar Marble CakeView larger Brown Sugar Marble Pound Cake This is my “accidental” brown sugar pound cake. You see, the first few times I baked it, I found the texture a little too dry. I revamped the recipe adding more brown sugar and replacing butter with oil. It turned out to be one of the best pound cake decisions in the world! The result is one intensely rich cake with a tight, dense crumb. The vanilla and chocolate batters are made from the same brown sugar base, so it’s an easy dessert to throw together. My favorite part is cutting into that first slice and unveiling the beautiful chocolate swirls! Directions Adjust the oven rack to the lower third position and preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C, or gas mark 4). Spray a 9 x 5 inch (23 x 13 cm) loaf pan with non-stick spray. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until combined. Whisk in the milk, oil, vanilla, and vanilla seeds. Set aside. In a large bowl, toss the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix. Remove 1 cup of the batter and pour into a small bowl. Stir in the cocoa powder. Pour one-third of the vanilla batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spoon 1∕3 of the chocolate batter on top. Repeat until both batters are gone. Gently swirl a large knife through the batter, making rounded horizontal zig-zags from one side of the pan to the other. Wipe the excess batter from the knife. Repeat the swirling pattern in the opposite direction. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes, making sure to loosely cover the cake with aluminum foil halfway through to prevent the top from getting too brown. The loaf is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out practically clean with only a few moist crumbs. Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely in the pan set on a wire rack before removing and slicing. The cake will stay fresh, covered, at room temperature for up to 4 days. I have to say, I just LOVE Sally's Baking Blog and have made more recipes than I can remember, so I was super excited to see her come out with her very own cookbook! I have already made a few recipes straight from the cookbook, I have to admit the cinnamon sugar Nutella muffins are my absolute FAVE!! You can't go wrong with any recipe in this book, yummmm!! :)

The pictures in here are beautiful! I love that there is an image of every recipe so I can make sure that what I am baking is even close to being right.I make a triple batch of the M&M cookie dough (Page 110) about once a month. After the dough does it's time in the fridge, I dish all of the cookie balls out and freeze them. My husband cannot be trusted with cookies, so I hide the dough balls under bags of frozen peas to throw him off. It does give me the advantage of pulling out 3 or 4 cookies and popping them in the toaster oven when I just need a few. They are delicious and it is always a request from my friends when we have get togethers.Her website is wonderful and inspiring. She is also one of the nicest people I have ever met! She is very kind and will help you with a baking question or issue that you encounter.I haven't had a chance to bake a lot of her recipes in the book because of the high demand for the M&M cookies. Her and I share a love for funfetti so I am hoping that soon I will have time to try a few of those out!The book is very well written and she has really helpful instructions in every recipe. This is the perfect book for someone who is starting to bake or is just a fan of beautiful, whimsical desserts!

I have a sweet tooth, I admit it, and on top of that I LOVE to bake. I find it relaxing. Cupcakes are usually my go to, but the picture on this new cookbook was so enticing we had to try it.+Glazed Lemon Loaf-AMAZING! Now, I will say the glaze is VERY sweet. I was actually worried it might be a bit overly tart for my boys, but it was the sweetness they remarked on. So, for next time I will just make a bit less of the glaze. I left part of the loaf free of the glaze, and I thought it was wonderful like that. Great with my coffee in the morning!+Cinnamon Roll Blondies-when I my son asked me to make these and I realized I had everything in the house already, I was sold. I LOVE a good, warm blondie, and these were wonderful! I like that cinnamon addition, and so simple to make.+Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies-Cookies are NOT my thing. I usually leave them up to my husband, but since this is what drew us to the cookbook, I wanted to try them out. And my son was begging me to make them. And...it worked! I admit, I was probably spending too much time watching the cookies as I didn't want to overbake them (usually my problem) but, doing so allowed me to get them out just in time.Of the 75 recipes in the book, I probably want to try out about 70 of them! That's how simple and yummy everything sounds! Best baking book, I've bought in a long time! In fact, I think I am going to order a few for gifts!

So I tried a few of her cookie recipes and they were all so good. The best cookies I have ever made! I love that Sally has tried, tested and perfected all her recipes. She gives you helpful hints and if you follow her recipes precisely, you get perfect baked goods every time.So when her cook book was published, I knew I had to buy it immediately. It is now my favorite dessert cookbook. So far I have made the Lemon Bars, the Key Lime Pie and 3 different cookies. They were all delicious and i got rave reviews from my family and friends. The book itself is beautiful, Sally's photographs are gorgeous. I love the way the book is organized by category and I appreciate that each recipe has a photo of what the finished product will look like.If you like to bake then you owe it to yourself to buy this cookbook. Love love love this cookbook! I originally discovered Sally and her many fabulous recipes through her blog. After making several recipes, I quickly learned that Sally has NO bad recipes. The same can definitely be said for this cookbook!This cookbook is a solid addition to any baker's bookshelf, from the beginner to the experienced. Love the variety of recipes in this book - from breakfast to cookies to candy to "healthier choices", Sally's cookbook has a little something f for all sweet tooths. The recipes are clear and straight-forward and each recipe has a picture, which is something that I personally like in my cookbooks.It is so difficult to try and pick a favorite recipe from this book, as they have all been excellent. I think I have made the Nutella stuffed Cinnamon Sugar Muffins about 39692726 and I can easily eat all the muffins by myself, as they are so tasty. I also recommend the Cookies 'n Cream Cheesecake, Marshmallow Swirl S'mores Fudge, Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies, RainbowChocolate Chip Cookies (people ask me for that recipe whenever i make them!) and the Pumpkin Granola Bars.If you don't yet have this cookbook, do yourself a favor and buy it now!

very good cokbook and i love that all the recipes includes grams as well. the recipes ive tried have all been big hits with my friends. i only wish that there was a bit more variety in recipes. for example, in the cake section there isnt a straight up chocolate or vanilla cake. theres vanilla strawberry, chocolate banana, and then its cheesecakes and key lime pie, etc. about 1/2 of each section is fruit based recipes, and as someone who dislikes most all fruit filled baked goods, its a bit disappointing.

I had picked this up at the train station in London before a flight, because the subtitle sounded interesting (and it was on the bestseller list).Right from the start I hoped the book wouldn't overuse the F-word like it does on the first couple of pages. I'm far from a prude. Actually, I just hoped for good writing, but overall I was disappointed with the book for three reasons.1) The author uses the f-word so liberally, that it gets annoying fast. It's somewhere between cringe-worthy and roll-eyes territory. I get she's trying to be cute and edgy, which may work for a blog post or two, but not for a whole book.2) In terms of actually useful advice, the book is very thin. There's a lot of "advice" in the book, yes, but much of it is just trying to be so edgy that it's ultimately useless for people that don't want to come off as rude and inconsiderate. I know it's supposed to be funny, but if I want funny with "bad" language, I'll watch Richard Pryor stand-up.For example, in the hypothetical situation of someone taking too long to order at Starbucks, you're supposed to ask them whether they're shortsighted and need help reading, because in the time they've been standing there "you" could have read the menu three times. Hold your horses there Jackie, you're not waiting in line for emergency medical treatment, you're standing in Starbucks, a place between home and work where you're supposed to be able to relax.3) The author comes across as unlikableIf you don't want to go to your "friend's" wedding, fine, don't go there, but you don't need to be so rude when saying no. You have annoying stuff in your facebook timeline? Maybe you shouldn't have added so many people you don't care about as "friends."Here's a summary of the book, to save you the 13 pound. Think about what you enjoy doing in your life and write it down. Make another list of activities that drain your energy. Find a way to eliminate items from the second list. If you want to take the author's route, be deceptive, hurtful, and make the other party feel bad about it. In my opinion, you're better off being honest and polite, but that's just me.Ultimately, it's my fault for buying this book without at least reading the first chapter. I was in a book store after all.

You might not like the "F" word and that will definitely turn you off to this book. I tended to change the word in my head to a less offensive word. However; the idea that you can strongly not care about things that you can't control, or should have little affect on your life is truly life-changing. My life has changed dramatically since employing the principles set forth in this small but informative book. I recommend it to anyone who lets their life be wasted by other peoples problems, influences and meddling. Of course caring about and helping people are very important and useful pursuits, but the "F" word makes a strong statement which will help you really feel the necessity to strongly rid your life of useless cr*p!

I will start by saying I really liked the Get 'Stuff' Done journal and Get 'Stuff' Done book by Sarah, and overall, I actually do enjoy the author's humor, writing style and excessive cursing!However, I felt the book lacked in explaining exactly HOW to not give any 'fox' about what others think about you. I felt like the author just jumped right into, "you shouldn't give a 'flock' what others think, ok? SO don't. Simple. Their feelings are their problems. End of." But I need to know some exercises and psychology for WHY I shouldn't care about what others think of me, and why I shouldn't care if I can lessen any pain towards someone. It was to the point where I flipped back a few times thinking that I must have missed a page, or that my book must be missing sections. Luckily, I've already been doing a lot of work on stopping people pleasing, so I know there ARE answers to this issue, she just didn't include many. If you are new on this journey and want actual guidance, check out other books on the same topic.There also was no advice on if your "enjoy" lists were too long and how to cut THOSE lists down if need be. I guess the author wouldn't know what that felt like, though, which brings me to my next point:I also thought the author was a true 'grass hole' at times, which was interesting considering her main goal and insistence on never becoming a grass hole. Examples would be listing things that she absolutely cannot stand and then calling people who care about those things or ideas, hurtful names. Naysayers have no place in my life--they made my "do not give a fox about" list. I didn't find any of those hater moments humorous or insightful either...it just seemed like she wanted a book to rant about and/or make fun of everything she thinks sucks. (which is a LOT of things by the way...almost everything it seems...)Calling out inventive ideas as "dumb" in her book was just low. Making fun of and stereotyping people who live in certain places also made my "no more fox to give" list, which she also did in this book. Don't like dog sunglasses? Off you flock then. Leave it at that. No need to call anyone who uses them or creates them "dumb." Things like that are why so many of us stop dreaming and stop creating. Is that her problem? No. But she doesn't need to continue to contribute to that for literally no reason except to throw in one more jab at people who take their dogs out in the wilderness and on adventures. There were other ways she could've made these points funny but she stooped low instead and didn't follow her own advice.To sum it up, she is definitely not someone I would ever tell any of my ideas to. People like that are generally perceived as "toxic," which is why any friend I had like her made my 'flock off' list. I would never invite her to anything either, seeing as she seems to want no social interaction with anyone for any reason whatsoever. And her initial issue with saying no to the simplest invites (I mean, c'mon, bar trivia? THAT's what you've been lying about then intentionally flaking on your friends?) Every example she gave was for shallow reasons. I've never had an issue telling a friend that I cannot attend her "2nd bachelorette party in Cabo" because I literally cannot afford it, and neither can my "average" friends.What I struggle with is the feeling that I need to help everyone, and my GENUINE desire to help people and be around people and invent "dumb" things and create art and really enjoy life. I thought this book would help me narrow down my "want to do it all" lists, and help me grasp why I feel like I want to help others so much, even when it puts me in a major bind. This book does not cover that. This book is for people who don't WANT to do anything, and don't have the guts to say no.But I know, I know. I shouldn't care what this author thinks or how she is...however, she is writing self-help books for vulnerable people who are in tough places trying to get some help managing their time and loved ones and passions. I would've given the book 5 stars if she explained HOW to not care what others think a bit more and if she didn't dole out so many low blows. The majority of the book was so funny and enjoyable to read but those little moments ruined it, and the complete lack of understanding of the root issue makes me believe the author is still on this journey herself and is in no place to be making money off of people seeking her advice.

Bought this for my mom for Christmas. I expected it to be mostly a joke, but she actually loves it and says it has been super helpful. It has helped her let go of the junk in her late mom's storage unit, back off of my adult siblings' poor decisions in love and life, and allow my teenage nieces to make their own mistakes.

This is my first Amazon review after being a Prime Customer for over 5 years. This is an EXCELLENT book. Had me laughing and thinking the entire time. I read it at the airport and had two people comment on how great of a book it was. It took me two evenings to read and I started making changes immediately. No more bullish*t business dinners that are not mandatory, no more happy hours with girlfriends I don't care to be around, NO MORE baby showers! Phew.. .. I feel better already!

This book is really witty, and offers lots of motivation to get your life clear of unwanted obligations. I’m a pretty blunt person, and didn’t really learn anything new by this approach. If you’re timid and need a slap in the face, this is for you.

I really enjoyed this book. Steph Curry is one of my favorite basketball players so getting to learn more about him from somewhere other than Wikipedia or ESPN was a nice change. I really liked how the book was laid out, it explained Curry's playing strategies and how he developed them in a clear, simple manner, and told the story of his life alongside of those strategies. There were several video links throughout the book, mostly to interviews and footage of Steph playing, and those really added to the entertainment factor of the book and it gave me a nice break from reading the text. The book itself is pretty short, so I was able to finish it in a few hours. The writer writes in a way that makes the book easy to read; the sentences aren't too long but they aren't too short either. It was really inspiring to read Curry's story, how he went from being a scrawny kid to a talented basketball player. Seeing Curry's increasing success due to his diligence and determination, it has inspired me to work harder at my own profession in hopes that I can make it on a big scale level.I would definitely recommend this book to any fans of Steph Curry, basketball fans in general, or really just anyone who wants to read an inspirational biography. I actually did end up recommending the book to my brother who loves Steph Curry, and he's interested in it!

I think this book did an amazing job at telling all their is to know about Stephen Curry. When I first opened the book, I was just skimming through it to see what types of things were in it and was planning on fully reading it later, but I ended up reading the whole book instead of skimming. It's structured perfectly and I don't even know what part I can say is the most entertaining or most informative because every part of the book is great. The videos that are included with the drills, the storytelling of some of Steph's games, the consistent comments about his weight and how he made progress with it, this is a pretty good book & I learned a lot about Stephen Curry. I highly recommend this book if you're a Stephen Curry fan or even if you're not.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Stephen Curry: A Sharpshooter's Journey To The NBA & Beyond. I have loved basketball since I was a child, I love playing it and I love watching it! I recognized the name Stephen Curry, but I did not know anything about him, that is why I decided to check this one out.Not only does this book share Steph's journey, there is a chapter devoted to shooting drills and exercises, and a chapter about motivational lessons. I can relate to the necessity of motivation in my life, because I had a difficult childhood. But the best chapter in this book was chapter 4 about Family & Faith. I am a very spiritual person who devoted my life to Jesus at the age of 20. I was so happy to read about his relationship with his family and God.Overall, this book is wonderful! I highly recommend it for anyone!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Steve James' account of Stephen Curry's rise to being one of the best players in the NBA. The book outlines how his shooting technique was developed, his early life, and workout regimen which is something I have been wanting to know for a while. I love Steph Curry and felt like I knew him a lot better after reading this. Good read, highly recommended.

This book was really, really good. Steph Curry has long been my NBA idol. Coming up the way he did, and fighting through the adversity on and off the court, yet still maintaining his unselfishness truly inspires me.The book was beautifully written, no grammatical errors and everything flows nicely. Made for a nice little read. :)P.S. On a personal note, I found that his faith as a Christian to be perhaps the most inspiring thing about his life.

As of late I have become a bit fascinated with the lives of today’s superstar athletes. I read a book not too long ago about Kobe and enjoyed it, and a few days ago I found this one and figured I’d give it a look through. (It was free, why not?) And I’ve got to say, despite the few grammatical and punctuation errors, this book was a pretty interesting read, easy to get through, and gave some serious insight into Curry’s life. It had me wondering where people find this much information on a person. The author obviously pulled from multiple sources when writing this book, and in my opinion it paid off.There’s a lot of emphasis on his workouts and drills in this book and almost reads as a ‘how to be Steph Curry’ book. I thought it did a good job of breaking down his formative years in basketball to the most current season, and I also liked the video sources embedded throughout, although I could do without some of the pictures. I felt that some were cheesy and/or unnecessary/ out of place, but that could just be personal taste.I also want to say that I wish the family section was beefed up a bit. You can tell from post interviews to social media that he is a very family-oriented man, and I think it helps us relate better to our heroes (to some people, I’m sure he is a hero) when we see them as more than a little man running back and forth on the TV screen.Highly recommend.

I really admire that Yossy chose a theme (baking with seasonal fruit), introduced why (her upbringing picking berries in the summer with her family, which has continued to influence how she cooks currently), and then highlighted 19 fruit categories in a wide variety of different desserts. Each category gets a little intro, with a gorgeous cover photo and advice on when and how to select the fruit at its peak.Every recipe is itself accompanied by a photo, and as you might expect, they are all stunning. The recipes often incorporate whole grains and aren't too sweet - we're told she strives for a sweet-savory balance, stemming from the influence of her Iranian father's cooking. Since it's officially spring now, I thought the cherry and poppy seed yogurt cake & the pistachio pound cake (without the strawberries, but with the lavender sugar) would be two good choices for testing these recipes. Both were quite easy and quick to assemble, Yossy's instructions are clear and accurate, and both cakes tasted (and smelled) divine. I did use frozen cherries instead of fresh ones for the yogurt cake, because I don't have access to fresh, reasonably priced cherries currently, but the end result was still delicious.After these, I made the brown butter blondies, because even though they're under "winter" due to the dried fruit/chocolate combo, blondies are amazing all-year round, especially ones with dates and dried cherries! Yossy's version of blondies very possibly outshines my standard go-to blondies from Back in the Day Bakery (which also have bourbon and chocolate chips, but include dried coconut instead of dates & cherries). As with the cakes, Yossy's blondie recipe is simple to follow, doesn't require too much time or effort, the measurements & timing is all accurate, and the end dessert is outstanding! I was able to bake all three of these desserts in one evening after working a full day, and I'm not necessarily the most efficient baker, so that's a huge plus for Sweeter off the Vine.I'm really excited for summer to arrive so I can try her cantaloupe and mint yogurt pops especially, but almost all of the recipes included in this little book are appealing to me (except the rhubarb ones - I wish I liked rhubarb, but I just can't seem to enjoy it.) I am also really pleased with her small-batch apricot jam recipe, because I think a lot more people would make their own jam when the scary/extra-hassle step of sterilizing the jars is removed because the intent is not long-term storage, but rather short-term consumption.I highly recommend Sweeter off the Vine. The photos are gorgeous and plentiful, the desserts are delicious, and although there are relatively few recipes (76 total), Yossy offers plenty of variations to give you a wide range of options. Almost all of her recipes are "unique", there's nothing here that I feel is a duplicate of other recipes I have, which is great, because I have a lot of dessert cookbooks. The twists might be small (yogurt, cherries, and lime instead of a standard lemon poppy seed cake), but they aren't something I've thought to do and they yield remarkable desserts. My only "complaint" is I confess to being a little saddened by the choice of fruit-based desserts, because I love what Yossy does with bread... I'm holding out hope it means there is a second book coming from her soon that will be bread-focused!

I am a pastry chef and I have been really impressed by this book. I have tried a lot of the recipes and if you use the ingredients during the correct season your desserts will be perfect. I love how it's divided into seasons and uses all fresh ingredients. A really beautifully done book. I would absolutely recommend it.

Delicious recipes, beautiful photographs, and lovely writing. Had a bit of trouble with my high altitude environment and the author got back with in a few hours with some tips.

The rosted apricot ice cream is to die for! Love the cherry/rhubarb pie....taste just like sour cherries that are impossible to get on the east coast!!

Loved the recipes & all the pictures. Photography was so well done! Some of the recipes are labor intensive but you can of course choose the easier ones. I will definitely be using this cookbook!

My new favorite dessert book. Not only are the pictures stunning and very appetizing, but the recipes are absolutely delicious. I’ve made the fig chocolate cake, the lemon verbena olive oil cake, and the Rangpur Lime Saffron Lime Bars. I want to make every single recipe! In Love with this book!

Filled with amazing recipes and beautiful photographs. Made several recipes that where a big hit. The receipe for the creme fraiche ice cream is reason enough to buy the book.

One of my all time fave cookbooks when I’m looking for a dessert to make. I’m the type that loves trying a brand new recipe and serving it to a crowd without having made it before - a bit risky! But with this book, every recipe I have tried has been delicious. I also love how it’s sorted by seasons and incorporates different types of flours. A must have book to add to the collection!

I was looking for a book that shared customs and culture, and this book is it! I read the whole thing in 24 hours (yes, I'm getting ready to go to Botswana). But I do wonder about the October 2010 advertised publishing date. The book shows the copyright as 2007, and doesn't mention any update for 2010. So my question is, now that we are in 2014, does that mean this book is coming from a perspective that is 7 years old?? If it is, why the advertised 2010 date? What is its significance?

This book was informative, although there were too many generalities such as older people being more conservative than the younger generation. We are left with a positive view of the country and it makes one want to learn more. I was surprised that essentially no mention was made of Sir Seretse Khama, the father of the country. A list of recommended readings on Botswana would be a great addition.

This was a very helpful guide to local manners and protocols. Technology information is not up to date but this is hardly surprising.

I bought this guide before going on Safari in Botswana. Although I wasn't going to be spending time in any towns or villages, I always like to know a bit about the culture of the people I will be visiting. This book was fantastic! It not only gave a great history of the country, but it offered simple phrases in the native language. I used a few phrases throughout my stay and loved the happy reaction of the locals I was speaking with both at the airport and and camp.

Having traveled extensively, I never thought about learning the cultural intricacies of a country before visiting. The concept seems to obvious, but I've never seen a book like this. I'm going to Botswana in a few months am so glad to happen upon the terrific book. Concise, detailed and accessible. Will always read Culture Smart guides before all future travel.

This is a short book which gives the reader a good understanding of Botswana. I recommend it.

I bought this small introduction to Botswana culture before taking a 13-day safari. It's a quick and easy read but didn't go beyond what I already knew from Botswana informative sites online. If you haven't gone online and want a one-stop capsule summary, this book would serve. I would have appreciated a more detailed primer on basic Setswana for the few commonly needed phrases I could use to be polite.

This book gave great insights into the history and condition of Botswana, a unique African country.
