I had barely unwrapped the package after it was delivered to my house when my 12 yr old nephew picked the book up and read it as he walked around the house. He never put it down until he was done reading. Yes, he is an avid reader but this one kept him totally interested the entire time. He has now read it a couple of times as has his mother and father. I read it this week, really loved it. Great job Scott!! A great gift for any age group.

We read this on a smartboard as a 5th grade class and thoroughly enjoyed it. The themes of hard work, determination, courage, and teamwork were explored in a very straightforward but touching manner. The students related to Scott's struggles and wanted him to succeed. Students wanted to know more about KU. For that reason, I suggest accompanying this story with the article from the Rock Chalk blog about Scott Novosel to give students some added context about the Big 8 game.

My 9 year old daughter loved this book. My husband is a KU alum so he wanted to get it for her.

I purchased this book for several reasons. A few of the reasons were my love of The University of Kansas, KU Men's basketball and Allen Fieldhouse. Also, I am a Jayhawk at heart, class of '91. I recently turned 50 and am excitedly expecting two grandchildren in the next few months. I had heard of the book and decided I needed it for the book collection for the future grandchildren. I received it in the mail yesterday. The front cover was enticing. I love anything based on a true story! I turned the book over and took the time to read the reviews. How could Bill Self and Danny Manny possibly be wrong about a review. I realized at this point, the book was for ME and then for the future grandchildren.... I suspect I will need to buy a few more copies. First, I went through the book, taking in the graphics. Scott Novosel and Sam Sharpe put blood, sweat and tears into every page. I could feel the roar of the crowd on a game night. Literally felt the atmosphere of Allen Fieldhouse jump off the pages. Next, I went through and read the book. Perseverance poured out of each page. A child and a dream, we all have them. But when you have inspiration along the way, those dreams come to life. Nothing in life is easy. Practice, practice, practice, then repeat. "Do you think you can do it?" and "Keep reaching for the stars and someday, you just might grab one..." This book takes you through the world of life all in a basketball dream. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Scott Novosel wrote a true story, for kids of all ages, about working hard and persevering to reach your dreams and goals. The graphic novel illustrations are very age appropriate and entertaining. You don't have to be a Jayhawk fan to appreciate this book.

Inspiring book with great animation, excellent gift for kids or any Kansas Basketball fan

Magic abounds, or maybe rebounds here. This is a lovely tale of the magic, of the hope, of Kansas basketball. I was blessed to teach Scott Novosel, and I'm so inspired his message.

I am taking a trip to several locations in the Caribbean. Franko's makes cards for each of the places I was going to go, so I purchased one for each place. All of the cards are identical, except for the name of the place. It's hard to see that from the small images they put in Amazon.

The pictures might be useful for IDing all those fish if I could see them without a magnifying glass. The card is about 3.5" x 5", which makes each image the size of my little toenail. Good luck with reading the text at all!

Its very limited in term of the use for snorkeling. We went snorkel at the natural pool and only can idenified less than 6 fish on the chart. Its very disappointing. They should update this chart.

This is a great chart you can look up any fish that you saw snorkeling it is small enough to take with you when you dive in Aruba

This is a good glimpse into daily life at the court of King Henry VIII. It explains the way the entire court (sometimes consisting of 1,000 people) moved and settled in at any one of the palaces (Greenwich, Westminster/Whitehall, Hampton Court, Woodstock, Richmond, Eltham, and Beaulieu). Gidlow shows us how the Eltham Ordinances, written by Henry's all-powerful Lord Chancellor, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, gave the rules, procedures, and protocols that every courtier was expected to obey. These ordinances gave a formal structure to the way the royal household was conducted - all the way from the scullery to the people allowed into the Privy Chamber.This short book covers a typical day at the court starting just before sunrise and ending late at night when the clerks in the Compting House cast up the daily accounts. It's a fascinating read and I would recommend it for anyone who plans to read Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and Bringing Up the Bodies. For me, it added some texture and gave me a little better understanding when I read those two great novels.Gidlow also touches on some of the political machinations in Henry's court (especially those concerned with Ann Boleyn) but really gives us an insight into the way the palace was run.He writes without embellishment and the book is a pleasure to read. The language is simple and clear and is suitable for early teens up through adults. It's a fine read.

All the gory details of bathrooms, dining and etiquette for Tudor palace life. Eating in shifts, who sat where, who slept where, and sanitation. I read once that the royal party moved from palace to palace when the places got too putrid after a lot of partying. Maybe, but this book didn't say. They did say that an advance party would go out to an area and secure victuals, at a fixed price, otherwise, the increase in population due to the royal entourage would cause local food prices to soar.The king (Henry) hunted from dawn to dusk. Other amusements were dancing, music and games. Candles were expensive--so people rose and went to bed with the sun, but some servants had to light their way by tallow and beeswax candles. The kitchens used young men to turn the spits for the many roasts. Meat was a big part of the diet. Your rank determined if you ate coarse brown bread or fine white bread (manchet.) A strange and unfamiliar life--very interesting reading

I enjoyed reading this little history book, and I learned things I hadn't previously know. For instance, I knew that Anne Boleyn had been executed on trumped-up charges of adultery, and that she had lost favor by failing to produce a son, but I didn't know that she joked with Henry's Gentlemen and mocked the King on the size of his underwear, which probably wounded his delicate pride. I also hadn't known what a dangerous place the palace would have been for the courtiers. I didn't know that one lady in the court was imprisoned for asking, "How many wives will he have?" I hadn't known what lodgings were like for nobility, or how the king's and queen's apartments were arranged, or how the daily activities of the servants were organized. All of that was very interesting to me.I rather wish that the author had included a list of suggested reading for those interested in knowing more. This history was just a morsel. Also, I wanted a bibliography. Sometimes when I was reading accounts of specific conversations that supposedly took place, I wondered, how does the author know that this happened? Who reported it? Who wrote it down? And how was the account preserved all these centuries? Sometimes when I'm reading things I've never heard before, I want to know the source of the information, or at least another historian to go to and obtain more information for myself. This author didn't provide that, which surprises me because he is an educated man, and he knows that part of higher education is learning to question everything and to gather more sources of information that support his statements.In all, it was a solid effort. The author did a good job of writing in a conversational style, and as much as I wanted a more academic approach, I still appreciated that this didn't read like a history book. It's very brief, which is fine, but I wish there had been a recommended reading list for those interested in knowing more. I paid $0.99 for the Kindle version, and I'm pretty satisfied with what I got for my dollar. I'm more fascinated with this man and his wives and families than ever.

The titles are, however, sometimes misleading (# 6 essay is actually not about this talented American actor). The final results vary from impressive to mediocre (the fate of any kind of essay collection). Some are quite insightful, but I am afraid some others indulge in academic theries (call it a sea of jargon). See the title, pick it, and give it a chance.PART 3 is most interesting (to me), but, alas! not so long. In # 9 Pam Katz tells us the inside story of how Cuaron's modernized version came to be what it is now, with several comments from the director himself. It is quite fascinating to know that Ms Paltrow's Estella was supposed to have a job (what was it? Read and find it.) And the interview with the great Margoyles is not to be missed, who gives a quite frank (and often funny) accounts of her visions about Dickensian world, and her works (she is famous for playing one Dickensian character on stage, and you know who).The last PART 5 is a filmography, but sadly, it is not perfect. I do not lament the loss of "Ms. Scrooge" ("A Chrismas Carol" of PC era). But I was shocked to see they omit 1922 Jackie Coogan version of "Oliver Twist" from the list when they use one of its stills on the book jacket! This must be remedied right now. And unaccountably, while # 16 essay refers to the 1935 version "Scrooge," the filmography again forget to record it. And please remember, the 1997 verions of "Oliver" stars Elijah Wood, one of the stars of "LOTR." (Haven't they seen this fantastic trilogy yet?) Michael Pointer's superb filmography (or IMDB) is still indispensable.The collection, to me, lacks the central topic, or pivot on which the whole book should be constructed, being too miscellanious. Some part are great, I am sure, but I still do not know why they made this collection. Maybe my lukewarm reaction reflects the difficulty of writing about the two types of media -- book and film -- at the same time.

Quick, easy read about the science of love, and the intricacies of loving someone, including yourself. I think this is a very insightful book for those in relationships that seem to be missing that spark they once had - and it is especially encouraging for those who are coping with unfaithfulness in their marriages; while that doesn't apply in my case, it does seem to be common enough that I think anyone can learn from it - whether recovering from that heartache, or trying to prevent against it!

As a guy I thought this book was great. It's based on social science, but the material isn't science speak. It's relatable and it has helped me a lot.

I give this book five stars because IT IS TRUE and REAL. I have met Joe Beam as a participant in his Marriage 911 retreat that saved my marriage. He knows what he is talking about, is highly educated academically and in life. The life tools in this book WORK. You find out EXACTLY what people experience when falling in love and how to keep falling in love. It's not a joke.....if you have visited a therapist or psychologist who knows nothing of the things this book references, go somewhere else. No joke.

Really good book. Entertaining and precise to the point or lots of them! Really enjoyed reading it. Although lots of it is not rocket science I think sometimes we all need a little reminder of how simple and beautiful love is if you only stick to it! That's what I needed. The reassurance that I can have that and I can choose to have it.

The book explains in very easy concepts love, why we get in love and out of love. Also a very good explanation between true love and the madd love or limerence how is called here.

No words to describe how fabulous this book is. I learned so much about myself as well as relationship dynamics. Highly recommended.

Not exactly the same book i had bought in the late 70's. I cannot say i hate it, but i was disappointed; i would not recommended this particular edition.

Yes, there are 296 pages including the blank ones. though the book brings valuable information about hand reading, the price is too high for a xeroxed copy. But if you don't mind that and you are seriously involved in learning hand reading it is OK.I am happy anyway, the information here will let you know accurately the past, present and future, health state and much more.Good Luck

Obviously the book is good a must have for all who are interested in palmistry.But the images of the hands are not clear.Also, the printing quality is that of a xeroxed book.Hope in subsequent editions these will be better.Nevertheless, its a good buy.
