This is the twelfth book (at last count) that my husband and I have read on sexual betrayal, so we have some perspective on current works on this topic during our recovery journey. After finding much edification from Stephen Arterburn's "Every Man's Battle" we were both appalled at Jason Martinkus's shallow and sometimes hypocritical chatter. He does not even address the integrity disorders and manic behaviors that cause out-of-control adultery, nor does he acknowledge the depth of sex addiction induced trauma inflicted on spouses and family members. The author's average guy tenor attributes sex addiction some type of all-purpose shame.Sensitive readers are advised to avoid sections that salaciously detail the author's exploits with too much information. His near-bragging tone comes across as he's been a bad, bad boy with a smirk. Although Stephen Arterburn's name is on the cover as a co-author, he limited his contribution to only the introduction and a brief afterword paragraph in some, but not all, chapters. This indicates that Arterburn did not endorse some chapters that reveal Martinkus's thinly veiled denial and narcissism about his sexual escapades."Shelley's Thoughts," promoted for wives as a book feature, are curiously absent from some chapters whose content probably embarrassed her. Her brief sections are printed illegibly in a sea of gray ink, suggesting that Martinkus is paying lip service to his doormat on the sidelines. Her "gray matter" offers wives some ridiculous suggestions from her experience, such as dressing in a more sexy style will make you so uncomfortable. No celebration of wives as proud, confident sexual partners here! We suspect that Shelley has a self-image crisis from her sex addict induced trauma.As some other reviewers noted, Martinkus's first nauseating comment at the end of Chapter One was that his sexual debauchery was "the best thing that ever happened" to his chump wife, in her own words. This would only make sense if she yearned for an open marriage, and the author's outrageous infidelity now permits her to cheat on him with equanimity, and without conscience. Such justification in shattering their wedding vows is pure hypocrisy.The chapter on male compartmentalization was blatantly offensive and blasphemous. The author argues that he never stopped loving his wife, and never failed in his love for Jesus during his many infidelities, including causing a lover's abortion. His "myth" of chump wives stating "He Mustn't Love Me" is not a myth! Sadly, it's true, your husband does not love you while enjoying adultery, for whatever psychotic reasons. This book is as morbidly and unintentionally humorous as the book "When Good Men Cheat." Martinkus trivializes his beliefs as a true Christian, and has consistently refused to take his marriage vows seriously during and after his infidelity. His entitlement promotes justification about men's ability to compartmentalize their lives, while women cannot. Oh, really? His own prostitutes are masters of compartmentalization.In his litany of "big myths" that impede marital recovery, the author claims that having more sex and different sexual activities with your spouse is a great myth that causes setbacks. We have found quite the opposite to be true, improving our intimate bonding with guides like "Erotic Intelligence" by Alexandra Katehakis. Ironically, Martinkus states that doing a variety of acts now exclusively with his wife caused him "triggering" episodes. This clearly indicates that the author is not nearly in recovery, still tempted by lascivious memories while making love to his spouse.We were both so turned off after reading the first half of this book that we decided to return it. Martinkus's repeated gloating about counseling troubled men "sitting in my office" suggested macho power problems, since he was fired from several other jobs. The author and his wife apparently still need intensive therapy. Steven Arterburn should take the responsibility of removing this unqualified sex addiction counselor from his dangerous position. We would assign this trash zero stars if that were a rating option.A far better resource for infidelity recovery is "Treating Trauma from Sexual Betrayal" by Dr. Kevin Skinner. His book is written with sensitivity, therapeutic exercises, and copious references to research. The aforementioned book by Katehakis is also very insightful.Ours is an independent reader review. I am the wife of a sex addict who has been in and out of recovery for the 12 years we have been together. The ups and downs of this—more downs than ups—have broken us both. My husband and I each started reading this book after our last “implosion.” I have never read anything in my life that resonated more with me than this book. Every. Single. Word. That’s why I feel gobsmacked! Jason Martinkus has clearly walked in the same shoes as my husband, and his wife the same as mine. Their story and his words of guidance are beacons of hope in an otherwise dark sea right now. I am able to see that my husband and I have clear paths forward for what work we both need to do...and my fervent prayer is that we have the strength to walk those paths.

I bought this for my husband after he confessed his sexual sin, and after we decided we were going to work through it and stay together. It is a wonderful book. I read it first and it was so helpful to me: how to understand what the heck happened to our marriage and what needs to be done to restore it and trust. I couldn't put to words what I would need and this book does that so well.

The recovery process is not something men can do alone, and to be honest, it isn’t something that is likely to happen without a spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ. Forgiveness for sexual betrayal is extremely difficult for a wife, but thanks be to God that Jesus Christ provides the ultimate example of forgiveness. If you are not willing to invite Christ into your life, your marriage, and your recovery, I do not recommend this book.I particularly liked the Lego metaphor of building something new one block at a time. Sexual betrayal takes a baseball bat to the “sculpture” a husband and wife built, but there is hope of building something new and better if both are willing to put in some hard work. The recovery process is not going to happen overnight, but it can happen if couples can use the tools in this book to build up trust block-by-block.

This book has some really good advice that as a wife who's had her trust destroyed for 5 years straight from my husband sleeping with countless backpage prostitutes and countless bar sluts and tinder hoes, that the information would've been very helpful. If My husband was willing to do everything suggested and truly take it seriously, I have no doubt that I wouldve regained trust and security; however, I bought this hoping he'd read it and put effort and he's refused saying he doesn't have time to due to work and classes. I filed divorce for the 2nd time recently and although he once again begged me back with endless promises, hes once again gotten comfortable in his narcissistic, sex addict, pathological liar ways and there's no hope for him. This was a last ditch effort that for me failed because my husband is a piece of trash..... however, if your husband is someone worth anything at all and has the slightest bit of respect to read and apply this book, I highly recommend and think you'll appreciate it.

Intended as a commentary on the Icelandic language rather than a tutorial. Since my Navy days I have been trying, although not diligently, to learn the rules of the language. It appears that maybe the task is doomed as there seems to be no predictable rules.Consider the peculiarities of English -- the plural of "dog" is "dogs", but the plural of "sheep" is still "sheep". Why is that? I have no idea. Maybe some deep cultural wisdom is contained in it.Anyway, Icelandic has quite a lot of that sort of thing where making a word plural changes it, but so does the reason you are saying the word. If you merely name a place it gets one spelling and sounding; but if you are going there it gets a different spelling and sounding, and so on. The complexity is fascinating.I was pleased to confirm an observation I had made while there; Icelandic can unambiguously answer a negatively phrased question. Do you want to see a movie? Ja (yes). Don't you want to see a movie? (Do you NOT want to see a movie?) Ju (yes; negates the negative and affirms the object).My interest is in human nature; an ancient language carefully preserved has such things as negatively phrased questions but also a way to answer such things unambiguously.Throughout the book Alda Sigmundsottir maintains a delightful and lighthearted sense of humor.

Most importantly, realize that this is not a book intended to teach you Icelandic words and phrases. It is an examination of the linguistics of the Icelandic language. This looks at how Icelandic history, environment, and culture is reflected in their language and idioms. That said, this book is a wonderful source for getting a feel for the Icelandic culture and people.

I especially appreciated the parts of the book related to Icelandic history and how that has influenced people’s practices in attitudes even today. For example, Iceland had a very high literacy rate even 1000 years ago, in contrast to the European mainland. I thought that the book was less useful in devoting a great deal of space to figures of speech which may shed some light on national character but are unlikely to be used by a traveler who is not fluent in Icelandic, particularly since many of these expressions involved somewhat rude language which a foreigner would likely not have the judgment to know when to use and when not to use.

This is a little book that is absolutely filled with witty and useful details on the Icelandic language in all its complexity and peculiar aspects. I've read it through once and need to read it again to get the full flavor of it, but my favorite section is the one on idioms and proverbs. These are the sayings normally unknown by the visitor to Iceland, and in loving this place for its rich literary heritage, my favorite is "Blind is the man who has no books."All of Sigmundsdottir's books are a great introduction to a beautiful country.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It comes with the link to the author’s website where you can listen to her lovely voice pronounce these seemingly impossible words and phrases. The stories behind the expressions are fascinating.

I bought this book before visiting Iceland and recommend it to those who want to get a feel for Icelandic humor. It is not designed to teach the language (which looks impossible to learn anyway), but in describing attitudes toward language, idiomatic expressions, etc. Sigmundsdottier gives a great introduction to Icelandic culture.

The only thing disappointing was that, as I'm not in Iceland, I couldn't buy a hardcover copy to match my set of Alda's other Little Books :) Otherwise, I thought this was an absolute riot. If you're a linguist, you'll enjoy the history of the language, which is comprehensive without being pedantic. If you're an Iceland-ophile, you'll enjoy the deeper understanding of the language and culture. If you're a human being, you'll enjoy the drawings and the absolute ridiculousness of some aspects of the language, which is a universal trait. Highly recommend!

I’m only giving this book 2 stars because I have only read two chapters, but I feel like it should be 1 star. Essentially at the end of each chapter is something being advertised. I agree with what the author is trying to say, however it seems like he sold out to ridiculous companies that won’t be around in 5 years. I imagine the 2nd edition will be be out next year. This is due to these ridiculous products being advertised and he will have to constantly update to new companies or new products.

This book continually reinforces how connected the Mind and Body really are. And more importantly, how enhancing both Mind and Body is ESSENTIAL in reaching the desired outcomes we have for our lives, efficiently and effectively.I love that the book is laid out like a roadmap of strategies I can apply immediately to boost my personal journey to success.I can pick and choose which strategies to try. His personal stories and expert interviews make it easy for me to decide which strategy I'd like to try first.I have no doubt that applying just a couple of these examples will get you some positive results. Applying multiple strategies at once might be like adding rocket fuel to your personal success journey.I was so excited over all the new suggestions to try that I needed to take a little break from reading to integrate all the new information. So, I thought I'd use this time to write a review because more people need to know about the help that's available to them to start living a more fulfilling life.If that's you (or someone you know), get this book NOW! I know it has something in it that can move you forward faster.Ok, my break is over. Now...back to reading Unstoppable.

I can truly say that from page 1, this one felt DIFFERENT and as I went through it resonated with me profoundly in that it almost makes TOO much sense why most people fall off or fall SHORT of their true potential!Fix the route cause of the issues holding you back, isolate/experiment with supplements and tactics that will enhance your capacity, learn how to combat the natural drop-offs we experience on the day-to-day! One week removed from finishing the book and I've already started implementing some of the tips from the book and I'm excited to build this new foundation AND to learn more about myself and my true capacity to do and BE more!I'm currently enrolled in Ben's 13-week challenge and can't wait to dive in!WORTH THE READ is an understatement for anyone looking to bio-hack their results in all aspects of their lives!

Great book, but my copy is almost unreadable. Anywhere in the book where the letters "iv" are together, i.e. live, given, etc. the word is broken up with "Chapter IV" in the middle. As in gChapter IVen. Or how about prChapter IVately. Very disappointed that this would be put out. Add paragraph breaks mid-sentence and you now have a literary nightmare.Just noticed this date on the last page. This the date I ordered it. No publisher. Almost seems bootleg-ish....I want my money back.

My review is not of the book Animal Farm but of this edition. In case you are looking for a review of the book itself, I highly recommend it. It is a wonderful book and strangely relevant today.I bought this paperback edition from Amazon a few days ago. When it arrived, it looked like someone had printed it on a desktop printer and stapled it together. That on its own wouldn't be a major issue.The deal killer and the reason for the one star review is that someone appears to have run a find and replace on the letter pair "IV" replacing it with the words "Chapter IV". So, for instance, the word "perspective" reads "perspectChapter IVe" and the word "receive" reads "receChapter IVe". The entire book has been affected by this. Glancing through the book, I realized how often the letter pair IV appears in English. Nearly every page in the book has at least one word affected by this.When I first received a copy, I assumed it was that specific copy and ordered another one with a different cover. I didn't check the manufacturer. Turns out it is the same book with a different cover and the issue was in it again.If you are looking to buy an edition of the book, buy some other manufacturer's copy unless you'd like to decipher words with random "Chapter IV" in the middle just for fun.

I am reviewing Amazon's "paperback" edition - not the novel itself (which is wonderful.) This edition was literally printed to fill my order - the date printed on the final page is 3 days before I received it in the mail. The type is tiny, there are weird blank lines throughout, and the words "Chapter IV" just appear randomly many, many times. It's unreadable. What on earth is Amazon playing at by selling this garbage product?I now know that reviews of a "book" on Amazon are not necessarily reviews of the product you are buying. I assumed this edition would be fine since it had over 4 stars. But I now see the average stars include all kinds of editions including Kindle.

The book itself is great - no issues with the book. This kindle version, however, is a travesty. There is not a single paragraph without a glaring typo. It's as if they just scanned the pages of a print version, let the OCR run wild, and did zero proofreading afterwards. Examples include "expect" instead of "except," "to" instead of "too," missing words, punctuation in the wrong place, etc.It's so distracting, that I had stop reading at the beginning of chapter 7, and get a different version. Do yourself a favor and skip this version.

In the 21st century, when we believe that everything is evolving around us and that all countries are moving forward, we realize that there is still a parasite which it is difficult to get rid of.Countries that had the opportunity to evolve, have had to pass a difficult test of not falling into totalitarianism and ambition. Such was the case of some countries of the Soviet Union that achieved liberation, but still others continue to fall into the same abyss from which they can't rise, or don't want to, since that parasite has crawled in the mind of their crowd, as did happen in North Korea, China, etc.Animal Farm shows the perfect example of how the unhealthy idea of ​​a cheap Socialism began to take root to become a dictatorial Communism, as it happens in Venezuela today. Its strange end leaves a bitter taste that perhaps the writer did on purpose to open the consciousness of future generations. An open ending that forces the reader to ask himself: what is the solution? And how will it end?Through human experiences of the animals of this farm, we can identify this truth that still lingers in some shady societies of the present. The solution is in our hands. It will depend on the degree of preparation, culture, moral values, determination, and courage people have to free their homeland and achieve a better future. Remember governments must fear the people and not the opposite.After that, I summarize my point of view about the strongest references dealt with through the characters in this book (that can be easily identify and distinguished when you start to read the story) in the following sections:1) Leaders full of charisma who manage to enter the hearts of the crowd by their power of conviction. They choose the most insecure sectors and people to whom they inject large doses of false trust and dependence, and then use them in the propagation of their miserable revolution.2) From the beginning, they call a supposed self-identification and self-recognition through rhythmic and flattering slogans. They remember again and again their few and poor achievements that remain in the distant past. Then, they impose a barrier of differences between them and the supposed enemy. In this way, the people is infused with a nationalism that is based on ignorance, fear, and blind reverence, forcing them to repeat proverbs and apply reforms without understanding the true meaning or purpose, thus beginning to resemble a herd of sheep, marching pleased towards the slaughterhouse.3) They make the crowd believe that they have the final decision and, for the common good, unconsciously follow the rules and imposed parameters. In addition, some extra benefits are allowed to those who follow and protect the regime indulgently. This is how they teach the majority that it is better to be corrupt, dishonest, and negligent, in order to achieve higher ranks.4) The regime feel entitled to legalize and abolish what suits it, ordering the people what to eat, how to dress, greet and live, and what to learn, while they live freely at the expense of the efforts of others and of the injustices committed, trampling the honor of an entire country and their own Machiavellian socialist laws.5) What seemed a worthy plan for community, social, intellectual, and economic development, now shows the true intention that tries to kill the spirit of solidarity to impose the dictatorial and even genocidal plan, if the regressive revolution warrants it.6) Everyone, even the majority of the crowd, realize that revolutionary projects are a total failure when they find themselves amidst of aberrant poverty.7) When they want to discredit an opponent or other progressive ideas, they use their famous method of defamation with lies, intimidation, and any other means. For them, the aim (maintain / save the revolution) justifies the means (spreading false rumors, prosecutions, torture, hunger, espionage), importing in the least the opinion of others, since their own people live in ignorance, cowardice and/or conformism.8) To finally protect their interests and ideals, communists surround themselves with and associate with allies of their own class: corrupt, traffickers, murderers and terrorists, and expand their power further through the destruction of every vital block of a society , from its financial structure to public sectors, such as health, without caring about the misery that people live. To rule the ignorant and negligent is much easier.9) There comes a time when the revolutionary-communist doctrine is so deeply rooted in the consciences, that the people forget how well they lived before. The most outrageous thing is that there are still people who support such regimes and whose can mental programming is so easily influenced on behalf the sadistic needs and convenience of these cunning and malevolent rulers.Times before the Rebellion are being left in the past, where the memories struggle to keep them safe to share them with others

Do not order the paperback version pictured here. The font is so small it is unreadable, but that is the least of the troubles of this book. There is no copyright information or title page, there are paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences and every single time the letters "iv" appear in a word it is replaced with "Chapter IV". It's about as useful and well organized as you would expect for a reprint of unrelated magazine articles. There are plenty of tricks to pick up from this book. Just be realistic about what you're going to get from it, which is probably 3-5 general synth programming tricks. It's not going to teach you synth programming by ear. It's not going to advance your skill with a particular synth - in fact it is counterproductive in the way it obscures the author's general approach by scattering examples over a huge variety of different synths. I understand that argument that posits this approach as useful for underscoring the universal nature of old school synth programming; however that happens anyway in better resources that illustrate concepts using a a free/open synth that nobody uses in real life, and the schizophrenic synth-jumping actually obscures the more important consistency of concepts. This book is entertaining and helpful if you are already up to speed with basic synth programming by ear.

This is a collection of articles of the same name that have appeared in Keyboard magazine in the past. The book makes a great reference for some quick "go-to" sounds, as well as a fun exploration of a wide range of keyboard tones for any synthesist wanting to expand their abilities. I especially appreciate how the author describes the "recipes" for synth tones in a generic language that can be applied to any instrument, rather than the often-seen examples that relate only to one synth and are useless to any others. In fact, it's a lot of fun to take one example and program it into all of my different synths, thereby revealing a lot about each of their unique characteristics and capabilities! The examples cover a wide range of sounds and uses, and contain many that I wouldn't have otherwise explored on my own.My only complaint with the book concerns the images of various synths. I assume they are there to visually show the settings described in the example as applied to that particular instrument. But the black and white printing hides some of the fine details. This isn't really a problem because the text of the examples are all very thorough, and in fact the entire book could stand on it's own without any images at all. The cost trade off for skipping color printing was probably worth it, and don't let this deter you from purchasing this otherwise great book.

This book is a great resource for learning how to create all those great analog sounds of songs past. The book is actually a series of articles from Keyboard Magazine where each article describes in detail how to create some of the coolest most memorable synth sounds from a wide range of bands and performers. Sounds from The Who, Depeche Mode and Thomas Dolby are all included.Although the author uses several different soft synths to demonstrate the concepts you should be able to get the same results on most any of the soft synths on the market. What the individual articles give you is a foundation from which to build where you can hear a synthesizer sound and then take what you have learned from dissecting the patches in this book and re create it on your own. The best part of doing that is sometimes you happen upon "happy accidents" and come up with some cool, original sounds.

The original articles might have been good, pictures are too small, and synth settings are very difficult to see. you're supposed to copy the synth settings, but the picture is black and white, and too small to even see what the setting are. You won't use the book.

The photos are in black and white which makes it very hard to get much benefit for studying synthesis patch programming/ audio design because you can’t really tell what you’re looking at.

Images of animals are pretty realistic compared to the other brands. A great variety of animals are represented from common pets like cats to farm animals like cows to zoo animal like zebras and to aquatic animals like the octopus. The name of each animal is listed with the image. Some facts about the animal are also listed on the back of each card.BTW, my packet came with the penguin and jaguar on front, not the dolphin pictured. This did not bother ma any.... The dolphin is still inside on a card, just is not on the external cover.Only cons are:- two cards are generic "birds" and "fish." Either list a specific species OR include cards for all the general categories (mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, invertebrates).- most of the cards represent mammals. I would have liked to see more variety. Maybe the company could offer a second pack of cards with additional animals like invertebrates, more fish, fungi, plants, protist, bacteria, etc. Together these two packs would be AWESOME!

I bought these for my 2.5 year old. We are working on her learning more words. I love that on the back of the picture there are facts about the animal. This helps her to remember the animals. She likes to know what the animal eats. I ask her different questions, such as, "What do raccoons eat?" And she says, "fish". Some animals she doesn't know yet but i think with practice she should know them by the time she is 3. Flashcard cards work really well for us. It's fast pace, hands on learning. We get through a deck between 5 to 10 minutes. I try to do it 4 to 5 days a week with her in the mornings.

I like that the kids can see the spelling and really take in the card as we learn a little more about each animal. The information on the back of each card makes it easy to tell your little ones a bit about what they are looking at. And it is a plus that you don't have to flip the card over to see what animal they are seeing.

What a treasure! My baby loves flash cards so I collected quite a variety. This one is exceptional. I just wish all other cards are made like this.It's beautifully hand illustrated. Animals are all well posed, lifelike yet very sweet. Color rendering is sophiscated, colorful yet very soothing.Incredable accuracy, compare it with your field guide books and no detail is missed. One example, look at those ants carefully, and you can see little hairs on their body. I didn't know ants have hair until now.Details are adorable. While the main subject is unpretentiously clear, there is always a little more there that makes you want to look at the card a little more and smile, like the bear that's trying to catch the fish in the river, like the fox that's staring at a snail...The illustrator must have very advanced study of these animals. I want to know who he/she is and his/her name should be on the cards.

I know the age says 4 and up, but I use them on my one year old, and she adores them. We use them everyday. My only complaint is that some of the animals are colored oddly, which is a little confusing.
