Only read the first 5 chapters so far, and it's already one of the favorite worship leading books I know. It's direct, very honest to my experience, and Bob sprinkles in some humor too. I lead praise for my church for the past several years and I find this book insightful with many quotable phrases which I share regularly with my band.Just love the theological view of worship and how he personal reconciled the balance of music style, how to lead and train, and most important, one's personal worship to God. Highly recommend it for young and old praise leaders alike.

Kauflin's sheer honesty in providing personal examples from circumstances like conflict resolution, song selection, and an attitude of holiness make this book a practical must for anyone leading music that glorifies Christ. Each chapter is conveniently devoted to one simple topic and is a quick study for very real encounters that any worship leader has, is or will experience at one point if he/she is seeking excellence in their role. It's highly thorough, but not monotonous and tedious. Kauflin expresses a great deal of personal opinion, but it only makes this book more endearing because it displays a true passion to see music leaders in the church and outside function at their best. I recommend this as a regular reading for all worship leaders, I myself will be making it an annual reading!

I am a worship leader here in Pittsburgh. When the whole Praise and Worship hit my church's denomination my pastor chose me to start doing it. He knew I had a voice and liked singing and pretty much through me up there. At the time it was what we called devotion/testimony service. Then it lead to praise and worship. Well I WAS NEVER TAUGHT ANYTHING!!! (Smile :-) I learned from hit and miss (and booooooooooy there were a lot of misses). I too started going through a tug-of-war in my heart about God's glory and was rebuked heavily by my Pastor and was introduced to Tasha Cobbs conference call where I heard this man of GOD teach and she promoted this book. THIS BOOK CHANGED MY LIFE! I am now teaching my leaders under me to focus more on GOD. I believe I NOW KNOW what to say to the musicians. I just see things in such a greater light. It focuses on the heart of believers who are actively serving and offers Biblical advise on growing spiritually, fundamental character development, and even conflict resolution and prevention which is a major factor in dealing with praise teams and leadership. In my 57 years, I have never read a book quite like this. If you are a simple aficionado of physics (like myself), perhaps having taken physics and P-Chem many years ago, you will be thrilled to see figures like Schrodinger, Heisenberg, Niels Bohr and De Broglie come to life. Better yet, Sheilla Jones traces a path from the earliest hints of quantum behavior (Boltzmann, Planck) to the full-fledged theories and battles over the deepest nature of the subatomic world around us—a truly mysterious nature that she caps off with a pleasing reveal at the end. Moreover, Jones deftly humanizes these larger than life scientists, bringing us into their homes and into their trials and tribulations which, to my surprise, are not so different from ours today. One tiny annoyance is that, in weaving together the different pieces of this story, Jones jumps around in time quite a bit (just like we jump around in space) so you need to pay attention! But if you do, you will be rewarded with a front row seat at perhaps the greatest spectacle in human history—an intellectual free-for-all wherein us descendants of Neanderthals came to an understanding of the wave-particle duality that sits at the deepest levels of physical reality, buried inside a cloud of electron probabilities. I hope your soul will be warmed by this triumph of better human nature, a triumph forged with little heed to the brutish turmoil that percolated across continents and time in the early twentieth century.

I have not read this book in its entirety, so please keep that in mind regarding this review. I did want to point out one glaring mistake which I discovered right away. Wolfgang Pauli was famous for the "Pauli Effect", in which things would breakdown in his presence for no explicable reason. And that is the key -- "for no explicable reason". The author, however, chalks up this whole phenomenon -- experienced by many scientists and friends who knew Pauli -- to physical clumsiness. There is no evidence that Pauli was physically clumsy. The Pauli Effect was infamous because it happened without any physical association -- and that's exactly what made it so strange and memorable. This glaring misinterpretation on the part of the author puts her capacity for fundamental accuracy into question.

Sheilla Jones really nailed the human stories, interactions, and challenges going on at the beginning of the 1900s with the inception of the notions of quantum mechanics, up through the elucidation and refinement of various models, and the personalities who created them. An excellent read which gives a better understanding of the theories and persuasions underpinning the formulation of QM.

Extremely well written book. You end up knowing all of these physicists very well. A watershed moment and worthy of such attention. Hope the author writes more physics books.

This was definitely worth the read. With great determination, but through a narration lacking strong cohesiveness, Jones tries hard to capture the turbulent nascent years of the new quantum physics as its startling revelations unfolded in the 1920s. We witness the brilliant new proponents emerge, roam through the leading European institutes and periodically assemble; mostly young physicists; many in their 20's. Their insights into the quantum "action" occurring within the atom deeply changed our world view forever, more so even than Einstein's relativity. Physics changed, philosophy changed, and the subatomic sea in which we reside was exposed as almost unimaginably strange and unfamiliar in its operation. With revelations came also a kind of darkness: the depths of atoms went from the unknown to the unknowable. Awful stress, soul-searching, and even suicides resulted.*The effort to show the personalities at play here is rewarding and the characters do come somewhat to life (or even death). The story is also helpful in that we get a good flavor of the scientific search in progress. Many important battles are described, e.g.: a man agonizing for years to reach an true understanding (e.g. Bohr); one hitting upon a massively simplifying method (Schrödinger); and another articulating a correct off-the-wall prediction (de Broglie) that helped sort things out. We also get to know their ernest competitions to be right, or at least to have the most useful idea, fought through scientific thrusts and parries inside letters, lectures, and papers.As many other reviewers comment, Jones's tale is not put together in a way that works very well, due to the frequent skipping back and forth in time and between institutes. A single chronology might have been better, but one also senses that this method would have precluded the insertion of the background factors of each man's life, factors which illuminate their individually unique struggles. But what I felt most disappointed with was the lack of a summing-up at the end, after that long rough ride of a decade.In the tale, I would have enjoyed hearing less about the domestic and career-searching angst of these men, since it really didn't connect that well with their individual science views, in preference to hearing more of the intellectual details relating to the course of the competitive progress toward the new science. For example, the theme of how one idea may prevail over another is constantly present in the book and heavily treated in details, but finally given very scant conclusions at the end as to how well it all went, with little modern retrospective. The epilogue jumps a gap from 1927 to 2005 so as to end not with how the Copenhagen School faired (it prevailed), but rather an allusion to the similar messy world-view disorientations we are now facing (potentially) from string theory.---*I also recommend Pais' "The Genius of Science" to gain a heightened appreciation of the intellectual bravery required of the theorists of the times to grapple with what they were learning.

We think of science and scientists being stoic and objective, but this intriguing true story often sounds more like a soap opera script. It gives me pause to think that much of what we think we know about quantum physics could be completely wrong, and for all of the same reasons that we see in everyday politics.My only complaint is that the chapters could have been organized a bit better. They seemed to go on beyond the given topic at times.

If you are interested in science, or simply, if you are interested in how geniuses carry on with their lives, this is the book for you. Author Jones carries you with a profound knowledge of the matter from a page to the next making it very difficult to stop reading. Her picture of many (much more than ten) human characters trying to understand how the physical world works and trying to be the ones that reach that understanding ahead of others is simply irresistible.

The Hubb Community Kitchen in London is a group of women who have come together to prepare fresh food for their community.   After being displaced following the Grenfell tower fire, some of the local women needed a place to cook fresh food for their families. They began to use the kitchen at the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, where the women who worked there had been using the facilities to cook for the community. They all shared the kitchen for two days every week, preparing food and eating together. Word spread and more local women began to join in, embracing community and supporting their neighbors in their time of need.   Soon there were women from different cultures all cooking, swapping recipes, talking and laughing. As they cooked, they began to connect, heal and look forward, and have continued to cook together twice a week.   This community of women became known as the Hubb Community Kitchen—Hubb means “love” in Arabic. The collection of recipes is delightful. I have many cookbooks I can usually pick a few recipes I will use out of the books but in this book there are more than 75% I will try as I work through the book. A recipe for Hummus, tabbouleh, fattoush salad, lamb recipes but also the Green Omelette, Persian Chicken with Barberry Rice, Kofta Kebabs with Onions &Sumac Pickle to Ginger Tea. A truly lovely range of breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and desserts as well as the freshness of the ingredients used. Even one recipe for a Tuna. Olive & Sun-dried tomato Cake not my thing as I am not a can tuna fan but I can see as this is a very practical recipe for a cupboard day just not my go to recipe but one everyone else in my family would I believe like, a unique take on the tuna casserole. In any case a reasonably price cookbook for a great cause.

I love this cookbook. The art direction, food styling, editorial curation, and recipes are thoughtful and lovely and excellent. I'm buying several to give as housewarming and holiday gifts. I love that it has a good cause. The size is nice and it's not overwhelming. I'm a Vegan so I was surprised to see several vegan recipes (without intending to be vegan) and there are many more that are easy to modify.On a deeper level I enjoyed reading HRH foreword, she's a formidable person and I look forward to seeing the change she will bring to the world with her platform and philanthropy.

I had to purchase when I saw the project was supported by the Duchess of Sussex. I love that the recipes all look easy yet like a lot of love was taken to make them. I have already noted about 15 that I will be making over the next 6 months. I also love there is a mixture of meals- breakfast, snack, dinner. Definitely a great price as well.

The women, apparently not yet properly rehoused, started gathering in a mosque kitchen to do home cooking and evoke their original overseas homes and the one they lost in London.What sticks in my mind are a gorgeous chickpea and vermicelli soup from North Africa, which starts out with a raw puree of all the aromatics and warm spices of....Morocco, I think, cooked down, an interesting technique new to me. Garnished with chopped dates and lemon wedges, yes please.Another gorgeous soup, a cream one with sauteed mushrooms, poached chicken shreds, and Egyptian spice. Nice Yemeni bread, carrot and onion naans or some kind of flatbread, yeast-raised pancakes with orange blossom ricotta and pistachio crumb....Russian semolina cake achieved by soaking the sem in its liquid for a while, and stunning, stunning Persian salads, lovely fresh crunchy, barberry-garnished rice dishes and huge roasted veg platters. They cook lots of lamb and chicken too, South Asian and North African style. There's an eggplant masala which seems a little labor-intensive for me but could be deconstructed into roasted cubes with masala paste, yoghurt/tahini mint? All in all a really good cookbook for modern women with very cosmopolitan backgrounds doing fusion Uganda/Tasmania/South Asian dishes to recreate their original homes overseas, as well as the polyglot paradise that neglect burned to the ground in London. Great read, even though I bought this for a college course It's a book I really enjoyed reading. Should be a required read for high school aged kids throughout the U.S., these issues are not addressed or taught enough in schools. Iceland does a great job of explaining poverty in America in a way that anybody can understand

These are individual case samples of poverty stricken Americans who have had their hopes, goals, and dreams for a better life smashed to pieces on page 126 Mr. Jerome Greene tells his story "It's been like hell," he says. "It's very hard to see people leave and go to work in the morning and come home every night. It's hard to see people spending money, going out and having fun and you can't. It's very stressing. Greene, about to turn 50, worked for 16 years as an Oracle software developer, most recently at a Pennsylvania company that made electronic components for cars. When he was laid off in June 2008, the recession was just taking hold, and he still had job interviews. By fall, with the economy in free fall, his phone stopped ringing." On page 121 Mr. J.R. Childress shares his experience "He's determined to stay busy, job or no job, for sanity's sake. Maybe he'll help a neighbor. Exercise. Or check out computer blueprints of construction projects around Winston-Salem, N.C., to stay connected to the world where he thrived for three decades. Childress has been laid off twice since late 2009, most recently for 10 months." Then "There's Brandi Wells, a single mom in West Virginia, struggling to find a job and care for her 10-month-old son." Last but not least there is "Ken Bargy, 58, had to stop working five years ago because of his health and is now on disability." This is a great and necessary book for anyone who wants to use VIM for serious programming.I have used Vim for a while, but only for very basic editing. When I started programming in Python, I used Pycharm as an IDE. However, once you get more sophisticated, such GUI based IDEs suddenly become quite restrictive and even error prone. So a year later I remembered my old friend Vim, but after following the only manuals on how to set up a proper Python environment, I still missed a lot of Pycharm's features.Enter Practical Vim. This book is gold form page 1 onwards. Even the little hint to actually read the forgotten manual was a big plus. And then it got better... highly recommended for anyone who is serious about working in Vim.

The author has a mastery of Vim that is inspiring and the "practical" part of the book is literally that. Incredibly helpful with many, many solutions to minimizing keystrokes and using Vim in a very powerful way to become more productive. I've only gone through half the book so far and I can already manipulate text more quickly and more powerfully than when I use Visual Studio with Whole Tomato. Highly recommend.

I liked the content and use of this book. I thought some of the words were a little outdated but language changes daily, so it was expected. My students didn't enjoy this book as much as I did teaching it.

I bought the Kindle version. The paper version would have been a bit of a waste. As a Gen X, I'm already purging all the stuff my Boomer relatives are trying to unload. I don't want 4,000 paperback books, Franklin Mint stuff, etc etc etc.I would have gave it three stars, because it reads more like a serial magazine article, BUT it would be perfect for giving a Boomer parent who doesn't get why you don't want those 9 boxes of Ty Beanie Babies or that service for 30 china set.If people want to know how much of the items your kids truly want, zip by any estate sale on a weekend afternoon. What you think will be cherished and loved is sitting on the driveway in 90F heat with the scrappers fighting over nickles on the dollar.Glad I read it. Just wished it was a bit meater?

I liked this book. It was informative and entertaining. I liked that the author gave the reasoning behind the "No Thanks" (why younger people don't want the items described in this book). A fast but good read. Very useful if you are downsizing!

Excellent comments about cultural change. Says children do not want to inherit parents "heirlooms". Lists ten objects they do not want and tells how to dispose of them. A book every person who wants to downsize should have.

I now know I have NOTHING my kids want me to keep for them. Goodwill, here I come!

Very short read, not real informative.

Her breakdown of successful habits and practices to downsize as well as her chapter re-orienting generation taste is a fabulous resource. Given the massive number of Boomers, the techniques of No Thanks Mom are perhaps best used by X-ers and Millennials when it comes time to disperse or dissolve their parents possessions as they retire or pass away. All in all, Stewarts book gives readers much needed tactful advice on how, why, and when to downsize belongings.

This book offers no-nonsense advice for seniors who are downsizing and how to separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff when it comes to getting rid of no longer needed items, from collectibles and books to porcelain, silverware and furniture. We especially found the author's "Ten Valuable Habits of Downsizers" very useful.

Loved it, excellent advice with humor.
