I studied under Dr. T.J. Betts who studied under Dr. Fuller. He taught us using the Fuller method. This method of learning Hebrew is thorough, each chapter providing a scaffolding for the next. The chapters are short and well organized, allowing the student to work easily through the content. The footnotes are money and need to be more incorporated in the text itself, in my opinion. If you hold fast and do the work, the student will walk away from this text with a sound understanding of the Hebrew language.

This book is excellent in that it is the first Hebrew grammar book which I have had which taught accents. A friend of mine now has a copy which is used for teaching in a theological college. The accents are used to create rhythm. If we can have rhythm in worship in English then the service is improved immensely.

This looks promising. I am excited about digging into it. Are there video lectures associated with this?

Powerful!! A Rumored Fortune, only the second book by written Joanna Davidson Politano, is on my list of top ten for 2018. More importantly, though, this novel will be in the running for top honors among book awards. This is my prediction for a novel of such high-caliber.Tressa Harlowe’s odd vineyard-keeping father has disappeared from their mid-1800’s castle. Sadly, the search begins not so much for him, but for the treasure rumored to have been behind.I should mention the narrative switches between first person, the rich heiress, Tressa; and third person, Donegan, the vinedresser in a class beneath her. Considering the societal differences so important at that time, this is extremelyclever of Politano.This book grasped my attention from the start and held on, like the sea and mist that surround the castle and rarely loosen their clutches on it or its land.Sadly, no matter what time period, people change very little. There are those who hear of someone else’s fortune and justify it should be theirs instead; schemers descend like vultures determined to get their share of the grand meal.Obviously, Politano is an anglophobe and describes the area, life, and characters with a poetic prose that makes them “a wonder to behold.” She is a romantic in the linguistic sense of the word.Fortunately, Politano is quite the romantic in the more common sense of the word. We see several possible romances, involving more than just the main characters. Which will thrive, and which will die, because there was no real connection?Speaking of connections, Tressa has three main interests: her father, (and the vineyard because that was his obsession); relationships, and the fortune. Politano weaves them all together in an unforgettable story of agricultural lessons for life, including the spirit, romance, and intrigue that will leave you amazed at the experience you have just sojourned.Hard to pick just a few quotes, but here are some faves:“Strength comes to the branch through connection, and that’s what I’m offering.” How Tressa needs connections in more ways than one!“It takes a harsh summer to yield abundance in the vineyards...When you feel you’re dying in the summer, all a branch needs to do is hang on.” So timely for anybody going through a rough patch!“...isn’t the sort of man I would imagine knowing much Scripture.” ‘No, ...he simply lives it out.’” We all need to live out our faith like that unnamed character!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. (I also bought my own copy.) This did not affect my opinions in any way, nor was I required to leave a positive review.

I reviewed Joanna Davidson Politano’s debut novel Lady Jayne Disappears and adored it, so I was quite excited to get my hands on her second work, A Rumored Fortune. Also a historical Christian romance with a strong female character, this one did not disappoint – and it too features a good mystery and more than a few twists to keep you on your toes.Tressa is kind, thoughtful – and as Donegan reveals to her, naive about and sheltered from the world outside the castle in which she lives. While she lived a life of wealth and one free of material concerns – at least up until shortly after we meet her character on the page – the luster of her privileged life is dulled as we read of her childhood, and what saves her from the “poor little rich girl” stereotype is that her character is genuine, clever, and caring to those she engages with.A Rumored Fortune is a layered tale. The alleged death of Tressa’s father draws out greedy fortune hunters, and it quickly becomes obvious that some people can’t be trusted…or can they? With plenty of red herrings to make us second guess who is there for Tressa and who will try to take advantage of her, Politano also shows that people are more complicated than they appear on the surface.And there are twists! Caught up in the search for the missing fortune her father is said to have hidden, I found myself wondering if the fortune was more philosophical (was it actually Tressa, or the vineyard itself); why had her father pushed her away, and what was the mystery behind the source of his wealth; what had happened to her father; and who could she trust? The author beautifully weaves all these questions together, and as one seems on the verge of revealing itself, the story takes another turn.The author also weaves in an excellent reflection on women and marriage, and love versus necessity as a driver in this period. From Tressa’s mother and her cousin Neville’s former actress wife Ellen Langford, to her hapless ladies maid Lucy and the very cheery, generous but poor Mrs. Sullivan, her treatment of the necessity of marriage for stability versus for love is human and perceptive, and her treatment of both her mother and Ellen’s situations are insightful and much more layered than I expected – a thoughtful treat.The Christian element is much more prevalent in this novel than her last, but Tressa’s faith is as well woven into the essence of her character as it is into Donegan Vance’s, so it doesn’t feel gratuitous or preachy. A Christian myself, I’m ever leery of books where the main character prays for rescue and God responds with a billboard and fanfare and flashing lights; I like to think God sends us what we need, but it’s up to us to see it the solution in front of us, and this is one of Tressa’s strengths. She reveals that as a lonely child she had easy conversations with God, and as an adult she questions the prompts and pushes she receives in response to prayer as wishful thinking – again, something relatable as a rational, overthinking adult. If you are not overtly religious, this may make you uncomfortable, but I would encourage you to view it as part of her innate characteristics (she’s kind, she’s creative, and she’s of deep faith) as it explains much about her character and it’s development.All in all, A Rumored Fortune was a lovely stand alone mystery AND romance. For me, though, its true strength was in the character development. We watched some of the main characters grow and change and even heal; through secondary characters like Tressa’s mother and Ellen, the author made me push past the stereotypes of those who married for wealth and status by revealing the weaknesses and fears that drove them, humanizing them to where even if I couldn’t like them, I could understand them. If a book can grant you a change in perspective, even if it was unintended, that is a gift.

What a wonderful story! I thoroughly devoured Joanna Davidson Politano's latest book. Rarely do I end a book with a prayer, but following the last line of the book was a scripture verse from John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing", so I quite naturally ended with a prayer asking for help to always abide in Him. It was so nice to see the author on Facebook on release day sharing her own personal growth during the writing of this story. The lessons of the life of a vineyard corresponding to scripture was so lovely. What is not to love about the handsome Donegan, a true example of the Father's unconditional love. The story is a treasure hunt to be sure, in more ways than one! I highly recommend A Rumored Fortune!

I didn't think I could love Joanna's second book as much as I loved her first, Lady Jayne Disappears, but I did! Tressa was the kind of strong, beautiful, jump-over-a-balcony-railing Victorian heroine I love to read about. Donegan is gruff and heroic, with just enough Darcy in him to make a girl sigh. The author does a fantastic job of revealing true character throughout the story, while keeping the secrets of who and what to trust until the very end. The writing is lyrical and the story is fast-paced and full of intrigue. I highly recommend this book!I received a copy of this book from Revell and now offer my honest review.

 Purchased this journal based on advise from a friend who is a Family Therapist. It's part gratitude journal, to do list and daily log which is great. Been using it for the past week, the fact that I can use it to track my mood and gratitude is definitely worth it. The prompts are great because I have a tendency to forget what I did during week with so much happening. my husband said he notices a difference in my mood since it came and overall I feel happier just being able to condense my other journals into this one. I will likely buy another one as a gift for a love one or coworker.

This is fantastic, basically the 5-minute journal without the added costs (albeit without the nicer cover). It does exactly what its supposed to, keeps you focused and journaling with minimal effort and distraction.

I LOVE Steve "Squidoodle" Turners artwork! This book of 50 designs is printed on one side of non perforated paper. Having the top 50 in one book is a pleasure, I get to experience a little of the books I don't have right now and some unseen designs as well. If you like variety you will like this book as it has designs from florals to steampunk, from castles to underwater scenes, something for everyone. I really like the original art and will continue to purchase from this artist. I highly recommend his book(s) to everyone!

Great book. Pictures are really nice. The only thing ( and this is not the fault of the author) is the paper used seems very flimsy, it kind of make the coloring look scratchy.

I liked about half the illustrations quite well but the paper was rougher and less white than the other 4 adult coloring books I’ve purchased recently. Pencils can be layered nicely but markers go deep into the paper and overall contrast is lacking.

Squidoodle has the most unique illustrations. I think I have bought almost all of his coloring books. I don't care for the "bad language" ones - the words not the art. I always look forward to seeing his latest creation.

These are not all suitable for coloring as the pictures are more like ink drawings not meant for coloring.

I love 'doodles' work and this is a nice variety if you are new to him as an artist. Nice selection of his pages. Not too many fussy details but not too juvenile...There are pages for all skill levels here.

Ordered this the minute I saw Steve’s post on FB. I love his work and was excited to see so many of my favorites included.

I like the way this book is written. It is a good introduction for people who know how to program, but have not done any Direct3D development before. The book is written in a very straightforward and almost scientific manner. This book does not assume the reader to be a complete beginner when it comes to many programming topics like so many other DX9 books do (even though they often claim they don't).This book simply covers the fundamental Direct3D topics as well as a bit of math, and it does so from the ground up as far as the DX API goes. Most of the samples are done soup to nuts, rather than using helper methods and API sample code that simplifies things a lot, but keeps too many details from the reader (once again: like so many other DX9 books seem to do).I like the focus of the book: It simply only describes Direct 3D graphics programming. Other DirectX topics, such as DirectPlay or DirectInput are NOT covered. Also, if you do not know what a game-loop is, then you won't learn it here. I think this is one of the things I like most about this book: It focuses on one topic, and it does a great job at that!But a small warning is in order as well: If you are not an experienced programmer and just want to get started with game development, then this book is NOT for you! Quite simply, many aspects of 3d graphics development are not for the faint of heart! Don't expect this book to read like a novel either. It is very much a DX9 text book.

This is the best intro to Direct3d book I have. For the game programming aspect, it sucks, but there are so many books that tell you how to make a certain type of game (Premier Press come to mind).The first section is purely math! This surprised me since it's the only Direct3d book I have found that covered that much math.The reasons why I gave it 4 out of 5: could be better. It needs more complete sample code. I mean, there's sample code on his web page, but the sample code starts at chapter 9! However, the (incomplete) code before chapter 9 is pretty easy to follow. Whenever he omits a piece of information, it's minor details likeint stuff[10] = { ... }; // fill stuff in with stuffThe book provides a very detailed explanation on how Direct3d works. Sure, there are times where he puts "see the MSDN for this struct", but that's usually when there's not much explaining he could do that's not in the MSDN already. I like that it feels like the author took a good deal of time to figure out how to explain every topic. The information is incredibly clear.If you are like me and look at a bunch of DirectX books and just have no idea what the author(s) is talking about, you should try this book, especially if you have a good math background. And if this dude releases a book on DirectX 10, I'll definitely get it. If you know DirectX and are looking for a book on game programming, look for another book.

This book is a great start for people wanting to learn Direct3D and a great reference for Direct3D programmers. Frank Luna's book covers several important topics for getting started with 3D graphics using DirectX 9.0, and refrains from any off-topic discussions or biased rants.The book includes a section on basic math concepts for 3d programming. Also includes sections on Direct3D fundamentals (which explains D3D9 initialization, the Direct3D rendering pipeline, and drawing in Direct3D with vertex/index buffers, color, lighting, textures, blending and stenciling) and applied Direct3D concepts (fonts, meshes, .x files, cameras, basic terrain rendering, particle systems, and "picking"). The author devotes the final section to vertex and pixel shaders and effects using HLSL (high-level shading language). He also includes a quick introduction to setting up a skeleton windows application as an appendix (where it should be located in a book on DirectX).One final thing to note about this book is that it only covers the Direct3D portion of DirectX 9.0, so you'll need to go elsewhere for coverage of DirectPlay, DirectInput, DirectSound, etc. Howver, the fundamentals of Direct3D are covered with the depth necessary to give a completely understanding of how to begin coding 3D graphics with DirectX 9. After reading several books on DirectX and game programming, this is the book I wish had picked to read first.

Firstly, let me say that this is a beginner book and even though it says "Game Programming" in the title it doesn't have much to do with game programming. That said, it still gives you a better head start in game programming than most books that actually do cover game programming (if that makes any sense).What I like about the book is that it has almost no coverage of Win32 and COM (there is a good appendix if needed, but you really should get books dedicated to the subject). The math overview is particulary good simply because the author relates it to Direct3D all the way, so you aren't left to figure out how to implement the theory through the DirectX API.The other topics are all solid introductions to the various parts of Direct3D (setting up, lighting, meshes (very good), vertex/index buffers, v/p shaders etc) and a very usable camera class and a nice simple introduction to terrains.You certainly aren't going to be able to write an AA title after reading this book but it gives a solid introduction that you can work from, which is sadly lacking in most other books.
